Game Log 3 - Imagine

Overview

During the ideation phase, we incorporated targeted refinements to enhance user experience, drawing on feedback from the expert panel:

  • Avoid excessive reliance on elements from the original painting

  • Increase interactivity

  • Clarify the overall process

Based on this, we implemented the following improvements: approaching each group now triggers a pop-up dialogue box presenting the same set of choices—Join, Ignore, or Help. Players select an option and receive corresponding points, with the final game response determined by the accumulated score.

Looking ahead, our objective is to explore the resonance between the game and the EU value of Human Rights. To support sustainable thematic development, we will construct an interactive mockup model based on the outputs from the Imagine phase, enabling developers to continue building upon this foundation.

Method - Interactive Mockup

In the current demo, the red figures act as dominators, while the green figures represent the oppressed. Specifically:

  • Red Figure 1 orders Green Figure 1 to stand guard

  • Red Figure 2 commands Green Figure 2 to carry objects

  • Red Figure 3 instructs Green Figure 3 to corporal punishment

When the player approaches any of these groups, a dialogue box is triggered, offering three options: help, ignore, or join. Regardless of the group, the green figure will laugh if the player selects help, cry if ignore is chosen, and kneel—a submissive or oppressed action—if join is selected.

Through this case, we also identified several limitations arising from current technical constraints. For instance, we envisioned characters interacting with real-world objects—such as standing on a physical table or recognizing physical obstacles in the environment—but such interactions remain unachievable with the present technology.

Here is a video to demostrate it:

Ideas from Game Test

After testing with another group, we got valuable feedback:

 - We need a richer UI interface. That is, at the beginning of the game, we should have an interface to tell players that the game has started.

 - We need more detailed modeling and more appropriate actions to better show the oppressive relationship between characters.

 - We need some guidance to tell players how to play this game and what the ultimate goal of the game is.

In addition, we should also explore the scalability of the game process in more depth to deepen our understanding of EU values. Our subsequent work will refer to their instructions to advance.
